Community Networking Lunch

Soho Neighbourhood Management Team would like to invite residents, volunteers, staff and committee members of local organisations to the first of our free community lunches at Handsworth Library 12.30-2,30 on 25th May 2010.

Senior Officers from Birmingham City Council and Urban Living will be sharing information and examples of community engagement and cohesion programmes and how you can get involved.

There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions and have your say .

Black arts and culture

The Drum is the national centre for Black British arts and culture and  is dedicated to developing and promoting contemporary arts and culture of Black African, Asian and Caribbean communities.

The Drum offer a comprehensive  programme  of activities for children and adults which include training and education initiatives that are supportive of contemporary black arts. (more…)

Flytipping hotspot-Victoria Rd Handsworth

I am highlighting this hotspot which is in my locality  because we are digusted with the level of flytippig across the neighbourhood.

Why are some residents putting their waste out three days before bin collection?

This picture was taken on a  Tuesday while the bin collection day is on a Friday, surely this is unacceptable.

As you can see the bags are blocking the pavement and in turn is a  safety issue. and  also  contribute to  increase of rats which is of major concern across the neighbourhood. For enquiries and information about rats and mice, you can contact 0121-303-6007/6993

The bags  were later removed by the Fleet and Waste  Management Team but from past experience we know that the problem will resurface within days, so there need to be long term solution. (more…)

Tackling mental health issues

We been in touch with the MASHRIQ Challenge Resource Centre (MCRC) who deliver support service for Asian women to raise awareness  and provide advice and guidance on Mental Health issues.  It’s a very interesting community based organisation and I thought it would be worth telling people about what they are doing.
