The next Soho Ward committee meeting is schedule for 9 th June at City Rd Primary School ,Cavendish Rd B16 OHL.   These meetings are open to all residents living within the ward.  It is also an opportunity to meet your local councillors and get updates on local services delivery. Community Networking Lunch

Soho Neighbourhood Management Team would like to invite residents, volunteers, staff and committee members of local organisations to the first of our free community lunches at Handsworth Library 12.30-2,30 on 25th May 2010.

Senior Officers from Birmingham City Council and Urban Living will be sharing information and examples of community engagement and cohesion programmes and how you can get involved.

There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions and have your say .

City United-Working with young people to make difference

I was at the City United office last night and was really overwhelmed with the good work they are undertaking to steer youngster in the right direction away from crime and anti social behaviour.

City United have transformed the life of many young people and have a database which include over 3000 young people from across various neighbourhoods in Birmingham  such as Aston, Handsworth, Newtown, Lozells , Kings Norton, Northfield  and Alum Rock.

Thedrum- developing and promoting Black British arts and culture.

Black arts and culture

The Drum is the national centre for Black British arts and culture and  is dedicated to developing and promoting contemporary arts and culture of Black African, Asian and Caribbean communities.

The Drum offer a comprehensive  programme  of activities for children and adults which include training and education initiatives that are supportive of contemporary black arts. (more…)

Interchat event at the Drum: learn about community engagement

We’ve received an invite to an event at the Drum, called Interchat. It’s on 7th and 8th of April, 2010, 2pm to 8pm. From what I can see, it’s aimed at people who are interested in community engagement – from artists to people working in local government and community organisations. (more…)

Remembering the music: Soho Melody project event

There’ll be a special event on March 12 from 9am to 5pm at Handsworth Library Community Room on the Soho Road to collect people’s memories of music in our area. It’s to help create a special piece of music celebrating the musical heritage of Handsworth.

How to apply to the Active Citizens fund and to the Social Enterprise fund event

Workshops to help social enterprises win contracts

We’ve just found out that a really good event – Adding Value- Winning Contracts, a workshop to help people working in social enterprises – is already booked up. That’s the bad news. Community Safety Days for Soho Ward
