Soho Finger neighbourhood forum organised the Community Residents Involvement Day on the Saturday 21st August 2010. The event was attended by organisations promoting services offered in the community and how residents can get involved.
The event had presentations, workshops and opportunity to gain information and be active members of the community. It was great opportunity to bring the community together.
Below is an image of the Digital Workshop:

Kiran Sahota Vice Chair of Soho Finger Forum explains the purpose of the event:
“The resident involvement day was to get residents in the community to become proactive and be aware of all the different organisations in their community trying to help them. It was a day for all residents to have their say about the area that they live in and making organisations aware of the help that they can provide to make it a better place. The day was to help communities and organisations work together and understand the concerns residents have.”

Thank you to everyone who attended the event and Soho Finger Neighbourhood team for organising the event.

Rogue traders on SOHO Road were asked to pack up their stalls following a partnership operation this summer.

Partnership working to tackle local issues
SOHO neighbourhood police team in partnership with the Town Centre Manager, Soho Traders Association, Soho and Handsworth Neighbourhood Managers, and representatives from the UK Boarder Agency, Trading Standards and Environmental Wardens carried out this successful operation
Items on sale included fruit and vegetables, jewellery, phone credit cards and various electronic goods. To add to the problem the items were displayed on tables that were causing an obstruction to pedestrians.
Officers also issued a number of parking tickets to vehicles parked illegally on the side of the road which had been blocking pathways.
PC Nin Rattu who helped to organise the day said: “We have had some great results today and closed down a number of traders who were working illegally on the street.
”Not only are these vendors breaking the law but they make a nuisance for local residents and businesses by blocking pathways and tapping into local electricity supplies.
“This is also a great way for us to find out what concerns our local communities and talk to residents and business owners face to face about their issues.
“Soho road is a vibrant and bustling area and we want everyone who visits to do so in a safe environment.”

- Having Fun
Over 300 children came to Booth Street Park over the second week of the summer holidays to take part in the Play in Parks project delivered by Birmingham PlayCare Network and funded by Be Birmingham via Soho Finger and Gib Heath Neighbourhood Management. This was the first time Play in Parks has been delivered in Booth Street Park and was huge hit with the community.
The children have climbed trees, played team games, made dens and even had a barbeque. Many families, fathers and grandparents have visited the park regularly to engage in their children’s play, resulting in some fabulous community engagement.

Happy Days
Here is “A day in the life” diary of one of the playworkers who delivered the Play in Parks project at Booth Street Park.
Before my first day of work I felt a little apprehensive about 2 weeks of working outside in English “summer”, but I enjoy working with children and the community and looked forward to the challenge. I didn’t know what to expect from the training but enjoyed it a lot; BPCN prepared us well but also kept us engaged with the games and feedback. (more…)
